About me
For my first post, I thought I’d let everyone sort of get to know me while I talk to myself out loud. Since this blog thing is supposed to be about dancing, I’ll try to stick to that topic. I first got into dancing in my senior year of high school. A little late, I know. But better late than never, right? Anyways, I started learning some basic dance moves from my friend Chad. He’s in a crew called Studio 1. I don’t know if you’ve heard of them, but I think they’re really good. So he showed me how to arm wave and body wave. He showed me a little boogaloo. Most importantly, he showed me how to pop. I thought, and still think, that popping is one of the coolest styles of dance there is. It doesn’t matter what you do, how goofy you act, or how fast you move; as long as you hit the beats while you’re popping, it’ll look good. So I practiced my popping in my spare time. In the car while I was listening to music, I would pop my head and arms, since there’s not a lot of room for footwork. A little later, I learned about isolations, and how they can be incorporated into popping. I was blown away! Isolations were the coolest thing ever, as far as I was concerned. So again, I practiced in my car on the way to school, or when I was walking around my house, or just chilling and listening to music. I’ve been told that my isolations are “sick”, “nasty”, and stuff. But I still see videos on YouTube that make me feel like I haven’t got a clue what I’m doing. This past fall (2009) I joined a hip-hop dance crew at UCF, where I majored in Computer Engineering (but soon switched to Nursing). The crew was a subgroup of the Filipino Student Association (FSA), and called themselves Fresh Off the Beat (FOB). I learned so much from these guys, and they have become like a second family to me. I chill with them every day in between my classes. This semester (Spring 2010) I’ve started going to two classes (non-scholastic classes) held at the Recreation and Wellness Center. One of them is a hip-hop class, which is a lot of fun and very high energy. The other is a bboy class. I’ve just started out, but I’m dreaming big and looking to the road ahead. I can’t wait to see how this affects my dancing.
So that’s a short story made long. I hope I didn’t put you to sleep. Be on the lookout for more posts, videos, songs, and such. Stay in school and don’t do drugs!
